New Garden

I’m not a gardener, but reading articles online such as Square Foot Gardening for Programmers and Geek Gardening: A Wired Guide to Domestic Terraforming really makes me look forward to doing something with my own, very bare, new garden.

So, starting with an empty patch of grass 5m x 8.5m and a few paving slabs, I’m planning to make myself an awesome garden that looks a little like this (although hopefully a lot less blocky):

I’m already growing various herbs that get chopped and added into my cooking every so often. I’d love to grow a lot more with the help of the 2 raised beds at the back of the garden design.

I bought myself an allotment book from Amazon, and I imagine the siteĀ Eat Seasonably will come in very useful too. Bring on the good weather so I can start building it all!

  1. @petemcn says:

No plans to include some fixed BBQ and maybe bench(es)..

… It’s all about outdoor living these days… Not just horticulture!!

  2. You’re right. We’ll probably fit some kind of furniture onto the patio area, but we’ve not made any decision on what that might be yet.

Today I mowed the lawn as if it was the garden I had designed, cutting only the grass that would still be grass next year. It was cool to visualise it all that way :)
